Vatican Museum

The Vatican Museums are the national museums of the Vatican. Founded by Pope Julius II in the 16th century, they occupy a large part of the vast Cortile del Belvedere, and are one of the largest art collections of the world. The Sistine Chapel and the papal apartments frescoed by Michelangelo and Raffaello are part of the oeuvres that visitors can admire on their journey.

The Sixtine Chapel

The Vault of the Sistine Chapel holds a famous cycle of frescoes by Michelangelo Buonarroti, realized between 1508 and 1512 and considered one of the most important masterpieces of Western art.

San Peter Dome and the Vatican Grottoes

The Vatican Grottoes extend under the central nave of Saint Peter’s Basilica, three meters under the current floor, from the main altar to about half-way the nave; they form an actual underground church that occupied the space between the current floor of the Basilica and that of the ancient Constantinian church of the 4thcentury.

Nettuno American WWii cemetery 

The American cemetery and memorial for the war dead of Nettuno was born as a temporary cemetery two days after the Allied landed in Anzio and Nettuno. Since 1956 it has become permanent. 7,862 soldiers from various battles rest there. An evocative place of high historical interest that allows us to meditate on the appalling cruelty of wars. The memorial is easily reached in 10 minutes by car.

Sperlonga 

In Sperlonga, one of the most scenic spots on the Lazio coast, the Emperor Tiberius had built his villa. It was a huge mansion. The natural cave on the edge of the beach had become an integral part of the imperial residence and still houses a spectacular swimming pool, valuable statues and alcoves. The Villa of Tiberius extended for 300 meters in length and included the barracks for the troops with the stables, the residences of the entire court, a thermal plant, the decorated grotto and the fishponds in front of the ravine. It can be reached in 1 hour by car.


Pratica di Mare Archeological museum

The Archaeological Museum, born in 2005 and located in Pratica di Mare, near the medieval village which occupies the acropolis of the ancient center of Lavinium. In the various sections of the museum are exhibited artifacts dating from the tenth century B.C. and the Roman age, including the statue of Minerva Tritonia, the large terracotta votive statues and the funerary objects of the protohistoric necropolis, from tombs dated between the 10th and 7th centuries B.C.  It can be reached in 10 minutes by car.

Ardea

The myth has elaborated various versions on the events of the foundation of the city of Ardea, linked to the story of the landing of Aeneas on the coasts of Lazio and therefore to the birth of Rome. The territory of Ardea was already frequented in the Paleolithic and tombs from the Copper Age have been found, dating back to the beginning of the 2nd millennium B.C. In the Iron Age there was a settlement of three villages of huts in the areas of Civitavecchia, Acropolis and Casalazzara. As evidence, the traces of the post holes of the huts and a necropolis, with children's graves and a tomb of an eighth century B.C princess with a rich set of belongings. Only 5 minutes by car!


Circeo

San Felice Circeo is one of the most popular destinations of the Pontine coast. Clean beaches and crystal clear waters are its strengths, attracting thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. Inserted inside the Circeo National Park, it is a natural oasis where the scenic beauties reign supreme; it is also a very popular destination for those who love snorkeling, surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing as the area is very windy and allows practice of these water sports. It can be reached in 1 hour by car.

Castel Gandolfo

The name Castelli Romani indicates the entire geographical area located south-east of the city of Rome. The denomination dates back to the 14th century when many inhabitants of Rome, to escape the economic and political difficulties deriving from the Avignonese Captivity, took refuge in the castles of Roman feudal families.Lake Albano or Castel Gandolfo lake is a 168 meters deep volcanic lake and on its coasts there are important prehistoric and Roman archaeological remains. The entire Castelli Romani area can be reached in 40 minutes by car.


Pompei

The archaeological excavations of Pompeii have returned the remains of the ancient city buried under a blanket of ashes and lapilli during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79. One of the best testimonies of Roman life, as well as the best preserved city of that era. Both Pompeii and Vesuvius can be reached in 2 and a half hours by car.

Vesuvio

The Vesuvius is located in a dominant position over the gulf of Naples. It is one of the two active volcanoes, or rather quiescent volcanoes in continental Europe, as well as one of the most studied and dangerous in the world due to the high population of the surrounding areas and its explosive characteristics. In fact, the Vesuvius area has a high population density and the number of potentially endangered residents is around 700,000.

Ischia Island

The island of Ischia is the largest of the Flegree islands and an important destination for international tourism. Famous for its thermal waters and its mild climate all year round. The thermal springs gush out at the Maronti beach, located to the south. To the east, Roman remains can be found on the seabed of Cartaromana beach. The beach overlooks the medieval Aragonese Castle, connected to Ischia by a stone bridge. Ischia is located in the gulf of Naples and can be reached in 2 hours by car plus 1 hour by ferry.
